Although your present furnace or air conditioner may be working, if it is more than 12 years old you should consider replacing it with a new high efficiency system. A new heating and air conditioning system could save up to 50 percent on energy costs, and save you money in the long run on heating repairs. While these products save you money on your utility bills, they also offer a better degree of comfort within your home.

When you need to replace a working furnace or air conditioner, America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical will help. Our company specializes in installation and maintenance of Heating and Cooling System.

You should know that proper installation of heating and cooling equipment can have a big impact on performance. America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical will install heating and cooling system according to best practices, including:

  • Proper System Sizing. Load calculations should be used to determine heating requirements. These calculations are more accurate than rule-of-thumb estimating (for example, square footage ratios).
  • Proper Equipment Placement. The best location for air-handling equipment and ducts is inside the conditioned space of the home (as opposed to an unconditioned garage or attic) to minimize exposure to harsh conditions (e.g., hot, humid, dusty attics in summer). Outdoor compressors should be positioned to minimize direct sun exposure while allowing plenty of room for air to flow around the units.
  • Correct Airflow. The airflow and duct leakage should be tested and airflow adjusted as necessary to improve operating efficiency, comfort, and indoor air quality.

Air conditioning and heating systems require routine maintenance to maximize performance, maintain efficiency and ensure safety. Most heating and air conditioning systems should be inspected by an expert at least twice a year to ensure that the system is operating correctly and safely. Maintaining your equipment regularly by America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical will provide you with the following benefits:

  • Increased dependability
  • Provide maximum efficiency which lowers energy costs
  • Maintains safe and healthy operation
  • Prolongs the life-span of the equipment
  • Can help to protect the environment
  • Find potential problems and fix them right away which will help drastically reduce the chance of break-downs which usually happens at night or on weekends when repair rates are higher.

It is essential to have regular precision tune-ups and safety inspections done on your home comfort system. America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical (Philadelphia & Bucks County, PA) will make adjustment and safety check that is performed on all types of air conditioning and heating equipment to help maintain peak performance, safety and reliable operation.

HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning. The three functions of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning are closely interrelated. All seek to provide thermal comfort, acceptable indoor air quality, and reasonable installation, operation, and maintenance costs. HVAC systems can provide ventilation, reduce air infiltration, and maintain pressure relationships between spaces. HVAC systems have seen a marked improvement in the development of efficiency within the past decade. Using new gas refrigerants, modern climate control systems are environmentally friendly and efficient. In fact, many commercial buildings and homes are having their HVAC system customized to fit their particular needs.

HVAC - Heating, Air Condition, Americas Best Comfort
An HVAC system has two main parts – an external condenser and in internal evaporator coil. These two components work in conjunction to cycle cool, dehumidify, or warm air through the HVAC ducts in your house. It is possible to get the two components in a single external unit, depending on your specific needs. America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical will tell you if this is an option for you.

Compared to traditional heating and cooling methods, HVAC systems are easy regulated and more efficient. They can be installed with “zonal” control, which allows you to precisely regulate the climate in particular areas or rooms. Central air systems are more expensive up front than traditional heating and cooling methods, however the cost can be cured in the long run because of a heating system’s energy efficiency, versatility and power to be upgraded.

When the cold or hot weather sets in, America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical (Philadelphia & Bucks County, PA) will make sure that your home is safe and comfortable!

Whether you are currently planning new construction or reroofing an existing roof, Spray Polyurethane Foam Roofing is for you. This is because it lends itself well to all types of roofing situations, from traditional flat roofs to unusual designs.

Foam roofing systems can be applied rapidly, with little or no disruption to the facilities. In most reroofing situations there is not even a need to remove the existing roof.

The benefits of spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roofing systems:
  • SPF has long life and provides stability – does not shrink, settle or sag.
  • SPF adds strength to the building structure.
  • SPF has lightweight and high strength.
  • SPF forms a seamless insulated roofing system.
  • SPF protects from nature’s harshest elements, handles a variety of environmental conditions. SPF roofing systems are resistant to leaks caused by hail, wind-driven debris, and high wind blow-off. SPF has strong adhesion and wind uplift resistance.
  • SPF provides reliable R-values under the most extreme conditions, dependable and durable protection against heat loss or gain.
  • SPF eliminates thermal bridging which can cause higher energy usage and cost by providing a continuous layer of insulation over existing thermal bridges in the roof deck.
  • SPF reduces energy use. Cool roofs (using reflective plastic coverings over SPF insulated roofs) bounce sunlight and radiant heat away from a building, helping the structure stay cool and reducing energy use for cooling.
  • SPF reduces capacity requirements, maintenance and wear of HVAC equipment. ● SPF provides safe, healthy, and productive environments.
  • SPF stops air and moisture infiltration through air leakage.
  • SPF resists water, mildew and fungus.
  • SPF minimizes dew point problems and condensation.
  • SPF application process creates a seamless, water-proof, durable building envelope.
  • SPF makes your home more comfortable.
  • SPF keeps dust and pollen out.
  • SPF eliminates drafts by completely filling seams, crevices and cracks
  • SPF reduces noise. Both low and medium (2lb/cubic/ft) density SPF effectively reduce noise from outside sources by sealing cracks and gaps that allow sound to travel through the walls, floors and ceilings into the building. They are less effective against noise caused by vibration.
  • SPF reduces solid waste. Roofing is one of the largest contributors of solid waste, as it is a building element that needs to be replaced. SPF roofing systems are often used to re-cover an existing roof, which can eliminate the need to tear off the roof completely. This then reduces the amount of construction material in landfills. SPF can also be applied to a variety of substrates and in various degrees of thickness to add slope and fill in low areas.
  • SPF promotes sustainable environmental stewardship.

At America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical (Philadelphia & Bucks County, PA), we use the most innovative and top-of-the-line insulation products. Our installers are certified professionals with years of experience in the business.

Spray Polyurethane Foam commonly referred to as “Spray Foam” or “SPF”, has many uses and applications. The most common being Insulation, Roofing and Dome style homes/hurricane shelters. Spray Foam offers better insulation value and eliminates air infiltration, which is as much as 40% of normal energy loss. Spray Foam provides a continuous air barrier for your building envelope. The multiple benefits of Spray Foam make this system the High Performance, time-tested insulation of choice.

Spray Polyurethane Foam has been used as a roofing and insulation material for over 40 years. At one time it was considered to just be an alternative to built-up roofing; foam roofing now protects a wide range of buildings. During this time, foam roofing systems have proven themselves through comprehensive, independent studies to be dependable, long lasting, and very affordable. Today there are foam roofs that have been in place for over 4 decades, and by all appearances they should be able to last indefinitely as long as they are properly maintained.

Spray foam roofing consists of an application of specifically designed foam covered with an elastomeric coating (typically acrylic, silicone or polyurethane) or aggregate covering to protect the foam from ultraviolet rays. Specialized equipment mixes two liquid components at the spray gun that applies the SPF to a prepared substrate. The mixed liquid expands many times its original volume in a matter of seconds, forming a rigid foam plastic that chemically bonds to the surface to which it is sprayed. Spraying the foam in ½” to 1-1/2” lifts allows the applicator to reach the desired thickness to fill in low areas, build up slope, and provide insulation.

Because of its light weight, Sprayed Polyurethane Foam Roofing can be applied over already existing roof installations. It can be applied directly over asphalt, shingles, built-up roofs, clay tile, concrete, metal, and wood. This saves the need for tear-off, reducing the amount of time, disruption to the business, even the debris in landfills. The roof has to be properly prepared by cleaning off any loose debris and aggregate, and by making sure that it is completely free of moisture.

Our Recent Spray Foam Roofing Video:

Spray Polyurethane Foam insulation is rigid, lightweight, flexible, wind resistant, and effective in extreme temperatures and weather conditions. SPF insulation has the highest R-value per square inch of any commercially available insulation material.

At America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical we realize that you spend a lot of money on your home. Unfortunately, if yours is like most homes in the U.S., it has construction shortfalls that cause common comfort and energy efficiency problems including hot and cold spots, drafts, moisture and humidity, poor air quality, and excessive dust.

To avoid these shortages, a house should

  • be “Net Zero,” meaning that it will generate as much energy as it consumes throughout the course of the year, required no fossil fuel inputs.
  • be Ultra-Efficient that combines state-of-the-art, energy-efficient construction and appliances with commercially available renewable energy systems, such as solar water heating and solar electricity.
  • Solar Active that comprises an active solar collector (solar thermal and photovoltaic energy) in conjunction with a solar heater, which switches on automatically according to your heat and hot water needs.
  • have Passive Design that is the best and most-obvious way to start a green building, because it improves ventilation, it’s more comfortable than living with constant heating and air-conditioning, it significantly reduces electricity bills, and it reduces greenhouse gas emissions from heating, cooling, mechanical ventilation and lighting.

For instance, the 5kw grid tied photovoltaic (PV) system will produce roughly 6,000 kilowatt hours of clean, renewable electricity annually. Electricity will be used for normal household loads as well as an electric boiler which supplies radiant heat, and a backup element to the solar hot water system. From May through September, the evacuated tube solar hot water collectors will provide nearly 100% of the home’s domestic hot water supply. Combined, the two systems will offset roughly 11,600 lbs of C02 emissions each year.

Ultra-efficient homes optimize and include the following design features:

  • Climate-specific design. Every homeowner has a unique building and site. However, the relationship of your home to the sun and wind is paramount in maximizing thermal efficiency.
  • Passive solar heating and cooling. Situating your home (and your rooms, doors and windows) in a way that makes maximum use of sun-paths and wind patterns is called Passive Design, because it allows your house to function without active mechanical heating and cooling.
  • Energy-efficient construction. A whole-house systems approach can help to develop a successful strategy for incorporating energy efficiency into your home's design.
  • Energy-efficient appliances and lighting. The most obvious place to look for improving your home’s energy efficiency is the mechanical systems that provide heating and cooling. A new central air system should have a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of 13 or greatly. The greater the SEER, the greater the savings – but you will pay a premium upfront. The underlying principle remains this: the more energy efficient a home is, the less heating load it requires. When minimal heating load is required, smaller, modest, and renewable heating options make sense, and monstrous fossil fuel heating systems are unneeded and uneconomical.
  • Insulation. Every material has a specific ability to resist heat traveling through it; this is its R-value. Higher value = better insulation. Insulation can range from plain fiberglass batts (R-2.2) to high-tech aerogel based products (R-50). For the residential market, however, there are essentially three forms of insulation: flexible sheets, rigid boards, and spray or blow-in products. In relation to windows, be sure to take note of the U-value, which is a measure of how much heat makes it through an assembly (as opposed to an R-value, which is a measure of resistance.) The lower the U-value of your windows, the more insulation they provide. Due to U.S. energy codes, insulated glass is becoming more common in new construction and renovations (two panes of glass sandwich an airspace, which serves as an insulator). To improve upon this, commercial manufacturers often use a specially type of glass with a coating on the outside called “Low-e” (low-emissivity) glass, and then fill the gap between the double panes with argon gas, which thermally responds slower than air.
  • Air Tight Building. Leaking areas might be around light fixtures (especially recessed) electrical outlets, attic access openings, old wood floors, cracks in walls, and most often through gaps around windows. With newer homes, an air/moisture barrier is wrapped around the frame of the house before the exterior cladding goes up. A blower door test can determine where a house might have air leaks.
  • Solar water heating system. The new solar heater ensures 100% of your energy supply for heat and hot water without additional conventional heating systems.
  • Small solar electric system (photovoltaic). Natural Ventilation and Cooling. A controlled, natural ventilation and cooling system regulates the indoor temperature through a controlled air exchange, which occurs via the windows.
  • Sustainable materials. Natural building materials provide for a comfortable and healthy indoor environment both in summer and in winter.

Ultra-efficient homes have a number of advantages:

  • Improved comfort – an energy-efficient building envelope reduces temperature fluctuations and creates a healthier and safer indoor environment.
  • Reliability – an ultra-efficient home can be designed to continue functioning even during blackouts.
  • Energy security – a home that produces energy protects its owner from fluctuations in energy prices.
  • Environmental sustainability – an ultra-efficient home saves energy and reduces pollution. Increased resale value – energy efficiency is as an attractive selling point if you put your home on the market.
  • Tax Credits and Incentives.

America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical (Philadelphia & Bucks County, PA) offers energy efficient solutions that increase in-home comfort, health, and safety and significantly reduce energy usage and utility bills.

We use whole-house approach to assess the energy and efficiency and performance of your home. We apply building science principles and sophisticated diagnostic equipment to quickly pinpoint causes of common problems and we recommend cost-effective solutions that resolve them permanently.

Heating a swimming pool can consume a lot of energy and add up to high heating bills. Solar energy can help to reduce swimming pool heating costs by using solar pool heaters. Solar pool heaters are used to heat both commercial and residential swimming pools.

Advantages of solar pool heating:
  • Solar pool heating is the most cost-effective use of solar energy in many climates.
  • A solar pool heater can significantly reduce swimming pool heating costs.
  • Solar pool heaters are cost competitive with both gas and heat pump pool heaters.
  • Solar pool heaters have very low annual operating costs.
  • Solar pool heaters demand a higher initial investment, but the payback is typically very short.

Most solar pool heating systems include the following:
  • A solar collector – the device through which pool water is circulated to be heated by the sun
  • A filter – removes debris before water is pumped through the collector
  • A pump – circulates water through the filter and collector and back to the pool
  • A flow control valve – automatic or manual device that diverts pool water through the solar collector.

Pool water is pumped through the filter and then through the solar collector(s), where it is heated before it is returned to the pool. In hot climates, the collector(s) can also be used to cool the pool during peak summer months by circulating the water through the collector(s) at night.

Some systems include sensors and an automatic or manual valve to divert water through the collector(s) when the collector temperature is sufficiently greater than the pool temperature. When the collector temperature is similar to the pool temperature, filtered water simply bypasses the collector(s) and is returned to the pool.

The existing pool filtration system can frequently be used to transfer heat from the solar collectors to the pool water. Solar pool heating systems generally use unglazed, low temperature or glazed medium temperature solar water heating collectors, depending on the climate and on whether the pool is located outdoors or indoors.

In colder climates, if you intend to use your swimming pool in winter, it will be necessary a conventional pool heater, to supplement the system in freezing months. If you want to take full advantage of solar pool heating system and save your money on electricity bills, contact America’s Best Mechanical & Electrical now!

We specialize in the design and installation of solar pool heating systems and operate in Philadelphia and Bucks County, PA.
